Our luxury cots & cribs all come with a mattress, but you also have the option to purchase an upgraded mattress to give our customers a choice to suit their individual requirements. All of our mattresses are designed and manufactured in England to the highest quality. Our mattresses comply with British Standards and are manufactured in accordance with the rigorous requirements of BS 7177 for flammability and BS 1877 Part 10, 2011 & A1 2012 for safety and performance, without the use of fire-retardant chemicals such as arsenic, antimony or phosphorous.

For the safety of our consumers our cots have been tested here in the UK and comply with rigorous requirements of the following British Safety Standards:

  • EN 71-3 on all materials as required as part of EN 71-6 for children’s furniture.

  • Reach Annex XVII For Restricted Substances

  • Schedule 4 Part 1 & Schedule 5 part 1 (Cigarette and Match test) : UK Fire & Safety Regulations for Domestic furniture

  • Schedule 1 Part 1 : UK Fire & Safety Regulations for Domestic Furniture

Any Toys, cushions or bedding should be used for decorative purposes ONLY, for safety we encourage all customers ensure that any toys/cushions/teddies are removed from the cot when your baby placed down to sleep. For safety measures it is highly recommended that babies are placed to sleep on their back with their feet closest to the bottom end of the crib/cot, with a light breathable blanket tucked into either side of the mattress below babies shoulder height. For babies under 12 months, sleeping products such as pillows, duvets are not deemed safe because they can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Cot bumpers are not safe especially when your little one is able to roll and move around more these can cause accidents, they are also not safe for your baby as babies can become entangled in the bumper ties and excess fabrics, babies have also been known to climb on these. Loose bedding, bumpers or pillows are deemed unsafe whilst your Baby is put down to sleep.

Positioning a cot or crib safely:

  • Keep away from dangers like wall-hanging frames, mirrors, or shelves.

  • Avoid heat sources such as radiators or direct sunlight.

  • Place away from furniture that could be used as footholds.

  • Keep clear of curtains or blinds with strings.

  • Use the base at the appropriate height and adjust as your baby grows.

Your baby can start cutting teeth from around 5 or six months and it will continue until they reach around two or three years old. To relieve discomfort, you might find they are gnawing and chewing on things a lot, including their cot bed.

When a baby is teething the saliva softens the material, causing potential chunks to break off, which is incredibly dangerous as they could end up swallowing pieces of the wood.

Teething rails are a great idea, a protective piece of silicone or fabric that runs along the top edge of the cot's sides. You can purchase them from places like Amazon.

Bespoke Cots and Cribs

The Luxury Cot Company bespoke designs are made to ensure they conform to all relevant regulations. However, if you request a design or modifications that means the cot or crib will not meet the required standards, in such cases, the modified furniture will be intended for decorative purposes only as it fails to comply with the regulatory standards and only to be used accordingly. The Luxury Cot Company shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use or misuse of our baby furniture. - The responsibility for ensuring the safety of the baby or child lies with the parents or guardians using the furniture.
